What changed
Two federal proposals, both filed in May 2026.
April 2024
EPA sets the first enforceable federal PFAS drinking-water limits: 4.0 ppt for PFOA and PFOS, plus standards for four additional compounds.
May 2026
EPA's Comprehensive PFAS Strategy keeps the 4.0 ppt PFOA/PFOS limits but proposes rescinding the standards for PFHxS, PFNA, HFPO-DA and the Hazard Index mixture rule.
Proposed
The PFOA/PFOS compliance deadline moves from April 2029 to April 2031 for systems granted a federal exemption.

What it doesn't mean
It does not mean your water is unsafe. Santa Margarita Water District — serving Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza, Las Flores, Rancho Mission Viejo, Wagon Wheel and San Clemente — reports meeting or surpassing all federal and state drinking-water standards, and most of its supply is imported rather than pumped from groundwater, which lowers PFAS likelihood. The district is also investing in future treatment capacity. Read their report yourself — we'd rather you did.
What it does mean
Federal backstops for several of these compounds are being withdrawn, and the timeline for the rest is moving out. A utility report also stops at the meter: it can't see your service line, your interior plumbing, your fixtures, your water heater, or the filtration system someone sold you six years ago. Those are yours. So is the decision about them.
If your results come back clean, your report says “no action needed” — and that's the end of it.

Only if your results call for it: equipment certified under NSF/ANSI standards for the specific reduction indicated — serviced and repaired by ADG ($149–$349 + parts), installed (when new) by a licence-verified CSLB C-55/C-36 partner who contracts directly with you, and re-metered after every visit.
The honest part, up front. We are not going to tell you your water is dangerous, because the public record says otherwise and we're not in the fear business.
